Specialists in American folk art of the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries, Martin and
Kitty Jacobs (top left) of the Splendid Peasant maintain an exceptional, exciting and ever changing
inventory. Our taste tends toward bold, graphic and striking sculptural pieces including
weathervanes, game boards, carnival art, architecturals and decoys. In 2004, after 18 years,
we closed our galleries in South Egremont (top center) which many of you fondly remember
and moved to a former factory building on Bristol Harbor in Bristol, Rhode Island.
In Bristol, we sailed Narragansett Bay and met clients by appointment in our loft (bottom left) and
split our time (and inventory) between Bristol and Greenwich Village, New York (top right).
But the pull of the Berkshires proved too strong. As of July 1, we're opening a gallery in
Sheffield: 296 South Main Street (Route 7), at Cupboards and Roses (bottom center).
Our joy is unbounded!
And the future has an exciting project in store for us. We have purchased an extraordinary piece of land
in Sheffield (bottom right) and are designing and building a contempoary house and gallery combination
to showcase our folk art inventory. It will be an exciting place for friends and collectors to visit.
We'll update our progress on these pages frequently.
We'd be delighted to welcome you to our gallery on Route 7 in Sheffield or, come the fall, to New York.
Should there be a piece you particularly want to see in person, let us know and we'll make sure
it's where you want to visit. Too far to visit, give us a call and we can answer questions,
provide detailed condition assessments and, of course, email additional images.
